Why choose The Nobel Kava Farmer? When it comes to selecting a wholesaler for Kava products, The Nobel Kava Farmer offers unmatched quality and authenticity.

All our kava is organically grown on virgin soils in the wild but does not have organic certification, which is difficult and expensive to obtain owing to our remote location.

We have been supplying major US pharmaceutical companies for some years now, meeting their requirements as to quality, bacterial content, etc., without any issues. We would be happy to supply your needs.

Package Sizes:

The kava is vacuum-packed within 24 hours of harvest in 5 kg packs. The cartons hold 20kg (4 x 5kg packs). All our Kava is vacuum-packed straight after drying to ensure freshness.

Freight:

All Kava being exported to the US is currently going by air freight costing between US$3 and US$5 per kg for a minimum of 250 kilograms and usually takes 3 to 4 days to air freight to US West Coast airports, including Houston, serviced by Air New Zealand.

Cost:

Negotiable.

US FDA Approved:

We are fully licensed with the US FDA for Kava exports to the US.

Milling:

We offer kava in coarsely milled, pounded powder, and micronised forms.

Coarsely Milled: This form of kava is made by grinding the kava root into coarse particles. It is typically the least processed form of kava and may contain small fibrous particles. Coarsely milled kava is often preferred by traditional users who value the authenticity and potency of the whole root.

Pounded Powder: Pounded powder is made by further processing coarsely milled kava to achieve a finer texture. This form of kava is easier to prepare and may have a smoother texture compared to coarsely milled kava.

Micronised: Micronised kava is the most processed form, where the kava root is finely ground into a powder and then further processed to reduce particle size. This results in a very fine powder that can easily dissolve in water.

Why does Kava Quality Matter?

Factors influencing quality include the location for growing kava, the farmer, variety, and age at harvest. Quality is judged by the smell and colour of dry kava, the colour and taste of the prepared drink, and its effects. Good kava should be dry, pale, and free from musty smells, with a pale brown drink that tastes good. The effect of the kava drink is determined by chemicals called kavalactones.

The physiological effects of kava, known as the “kick,” are attributed to kavalactones, its active chemical components. These effects are a crucial factor in kava quality, along with factors like origin, taste, and cleanliness. There are six major kavalactones, identified by a numbering system. Kava quality is determined by testing the amounts of these kavalactones in a laboratory and ranking them in descending order to establish a chemotype. Buyers and producers focus on the first three kavalactones (dihydrokavain, kavain, and methysticin) for quality, along with the total kavalactone content.

Kava contains 18 different kavalactones, with at least 15 being active. However, six of these, including kavain, dihydrokavain, methysticin, dihydromethysticin, yangonin, and desmethoxyyangonin, are responsible for about 96% of the plant’s effects. Additionally, there are minor constituents such as flavokavains and a toxic alkaloid called pipermethystine, though this alkaloid is not present in parts of the plant that are typically consumed.
